Nevisians Urged To Take Advantage Of UNESCO Projects

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 14, 2006)
General Secretary for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Mr. Antonio Maynard has encouraged Nevisians to familiarise themselves with projects and programmes offered by the Organisation and to take advantage of them.
 
Mr. Maynard’s advise came at the end of a UNESCO sponsored Library training project certificate award ceremony on Tuesday December 12, 2006, at the Department of Education, Marion Heights in Nevis in a bid to raise UNESCO’s profile and sensitise the public on Nevis.
 
He said, though UNESCO funded projects had increased on Nevis over the years, there were many more available that had not been fully utilised.

PM Calls For Professional Service At St. Kitts Airport

St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas had a message for all service providers at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.

“All of the investment of millions of dollars will be of little use to this country, if the service is not professional, if the service is discourteous, and if the service is not helpful and if the visitor experience, resulting from our service does not encourage him to return again and again and spend well needed tourist dollars with our restaurants, our taxi operators and craft vendors,” he said at the official opening of the new parking apron, new and extended taxi way, new fuel farm and resurfaced runway and existing parking apron.

Increase in passenger arrivals at the twin-island’s main gateway, the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, will be fueled by major projects that are taking place in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said proposed major resort development to take place on the South-east Peninsula, coupled with various projects in the Whitegate area, will result in substantial demand for airline services “and we are most pleased to be in a position to accommodate the demand when it occurs.”

Nevis Libraries Critical To Development

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 13, 2006)
An official of the Department of Education on Nevis called for a major paradigm shift by administrators, classroom teachers and librarians, who are of the view, that libraries and librarians were not as important as other educational institutions. On the contrary, she said, libraries played a major role in the total development of the community.
 
Mrs Ellen Grant, Coordinator at the Teachers Resource Unit in the Department of Education on Nevis, made the call while she delivered remarks on behalf of the Department on Tuesday December 12, 2006, at the culmination of a four-day Library Training Workshop at Marion Heights facilitated by Ms. Londa Browne.
