Nevis Tourism To Showcase Nevis For Cricket World Cup

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January19, 2007)
The Nevis Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Social Transformation, Youth, Sports Culture, Trade, Industry and Consumer Affairs have joined forces to enhance the visitor experience while on Nevis for the upcoming 2007 Cricket World Cup
 
According to Mr. Devon Liburd, Tourism Officer at the Authority, both bodies have formed a World Cup 2007 Visitor Experience Enhancement Committee to make sure that an indelible mark and a lasting memorable impression would remain with visitors to Nevis during that period.
 
The Tourism official said, though the cricket matches would be played in St. Kitts, not all visitors would be attending the matches and there would be a number of rest days during the matches, the Committee would provide an avenue through which visitors could enjoy some of what Nevis had to offer.

Nevis Tourism Week 2007

Charlestown Nevis (January 18, 2007)
The Research and Development Unit of the Ministry of Tourism in the Nevis Island Administration released the timetable for what it described as a dynamic Tourism Week of activities for 2007 at a press conference.
 
The event was held on Wednesday January 17, at the historical Bath Hotel where the Ministry is housed.  Speaking at the press conference, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Tyrone O’Flaherty gave an overview of the week of activities and the reason behind the event, noting that it was a time when all the stakeholders in the industry would come together to highlight the importance of the tourism industry.
 
A church service on Saturday 27 at the Mannings Seventh Day Adventist Church kicks off the week of activities which will run from January 27th to February 3rd 2007, under the theme “Tourism Is Our Business”.

Nevis Supports Closer Relations With Federal Government

Charlestown Nevis (January 17, 2007)
Nevis’ Premier the Hon. Joseph Parry endorsed the improved working relationship between his administration and the Federal Government.
 
Mr. Parry made the comment during brief remarks at the first meeting for the year of the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Nevis Division.  The event was held at the Four Seasons Resort on Tuesday January 16, 2007.
 
He was among the invited guests, which included the featured speaker, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas.  “I support the Prime Minister in most of the things he said this afternoon and I can definitely say that the Nevis Island Government is working very closely with the Federal Government to make sure the people of Nevis and the people of St. Kitts have mutual benefit,” Premier Parry told the gathering.
 
The Nevisian Leader noted that there were ongoing matters among them, the political and Constitutional Reform.   He said those issues could be endorsed by both governments because they had met and were working towards an amicable solution in which Nevis could find itself in an even stronger position with regard to its own autonomy.

Nevis To Move Toward National Health Scheme

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 17, 2007)
Minister of Health in the Nevis Island Administration the Hon. Hensley Daniel said it has become necessary for the public to contribute to health care on Nevis to assist government with the expensive business of health care and issued a call to all to work with government and to place health higher on their list of priorities.
 
In an interview with the Department of Information, Mr. Daniel said that government’s resources were limited in terms of assisting everyone who needed care and planned to establish a National Health Scheme. The move would include the preparation of a programme for the engagement of the public which is expected to be completed by the end of January.
 
According to Mr. Daniel, a cursory check had revealed that government had expended in excess of $250,000 from the Consolidated Fund in 2006 to assist people with overseas treatment alone.
