CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (FEBRUARY 05, 2007)
The Nevis Island Administration gave the green light to Bedrock Exploration and Development Technologies (BEAD) to commence deep drilling for water to meet the growing demands for the commodity at a cheaper cost to consumers.

The disclosure was made recently by the Hon. Carlisle Powell, Minister with responsibility for Utilities on Nevis during an interview with the Department of Information at his office in Charlestown. He said cabinet had selected BEAD from a shortlist of five companies who had indicated their interest to provide Nevis with up to an extra million gallons of water per day.

Mr. Michael Miville of BEAD said the exploration process would be approximately three to six months and a drill rig would be in the island before six months. He expressed the hope that it would not take long to develop the initial supplies of water primarily in areas where there is the greatest need.

OAS Director to St. Kitts and Nevis Mr. Starret Greene said though tourism was everybody’s business, the government’s role, the support of the private sector and people’s involvement were all critical ingredients in the campaign and theme of Tourism Week 2007 “Tourism is our Business”.

Mr. Starret Greene made the comment while he delivered the keynote address at the annual Nevis Tourism Awards Gala on Saturday February 03, 2007, at the Four Seasons Resort.  He said in order to guarantee the economic impact of tourism was adequately distributed; the people of Nevis must take full ownership of tourism.

“You must be calling the shots you should become more intimately involved in managing and operating key sectors that are indispensable to the survival of the industry.  You the citizens should endeavour to increase your stake in the industry. Let tourism be your business, get in on the action.  Compete for a part of the tourist dollar, it is your right.  It is your country’s most important industry.  Take your rightful place in it,” he advised.

Charlestown Nevis (February 2nd 2007)
Minister of Health in the Nevis Island Administration the Hon. Hensley Daniel has issued a call for young  people in Nevis to equip themselves for careers in the health care profession citing  that it would allow them to respond to the challenges facing the critical care needs of the island. The Minister made the call following a recent visit to the Alexandra Hospital where he took a first hand look as he assessed the health care sector on Nevis.

In an interview with the Department of Information, Mr. Daniel said there was an urgent need for trained professionals to assume a number of immediate vacant positions at the institution and also training opportunities.

Charlestown Nevis (February 2nd 2007)
South Africa’s new High Commissioner to Caricom States and Ambassador to Haiti, her Excellency, Faith Doreen Radebe, continued her round of official familiarization visits to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis when she visited Nevis on Thursday February 1, 2007.  While on the island she paid courtesy calls on Premier the Honorable Joseph Parry at his Bath Plain office.

In welcoming the South African Ambassador, Mr. Parry said he was looking  forward to a growing relationship between South Africa and the continent of Africa, and the Caribbean, and in particular St. Kitts and Nevis.  “This is a good move and I hope to see other African countries doing this and I would also hope to see the Caribbean countries represented in Africa”, the Premier said.
