US Ambassador Visits Nevis

United States of America (USA) Ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean Her Excellency Mrs. Mary Orisman paid a courtesy call on Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry at his Bath Plain Office on September 20, 2007, where she expressed her thanks for the opportunity to present a US$40,000 gift to the people of Nevis from her government,. The monetary gift was given to the Alexander Hamilton Museum in Charlestown, through the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS).
 
Mr. Parry thanked the Ambassador for the gift and expressed his appreciation for the contribution to the Museum. He said the gift was timely in line with the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Hamilton, an American Statesman who was born and raised in Nevis.
 
“I am also very appreciative of the contribution that she [Ambassador Orisman] will make to the Alexander Hamilton Museum. Indeed it is the right time to give recognition to this great American statesman and son of Nevis. I do hope that in honouring him that the people of America would understand the ties between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States of America.

Drag Racing Debacle In Nevis

The Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry surprised listeners to the very popular Choice FM radio call-in program “Tell Me” on Thursday night.  Premier Parry exposed his concern on how the Royal St. Kitts – Nevis Police Force handled the Independence Day Drag race incident  on Wednesday morning with a lack of respect for the Nevis Island Administration.

“Several meetings were held between Minister Robelto Hector and Superintendent Joseph Liburd and I. We discussed the areas of Security, the ambulance, Fire services and the crowd being away from any danger zones”¦all these important factors were discussed before the race, so I do not understand why he would prevent the drag race from taking place and not informing me or Minister Hector in advance about the situation properly. There were several persons who came up from St.Kitts and wasted their resources on account of this situation,” said Mr. Parry as he spoke to radio host Mr. Hastings Daniel.

St. Kitts Athletic Stadium Construction On Schedule

The construction process at the Bird Rock athletic stadium remains on schedule.

That assurance was given by Project Manager Wycliffe Morton Jr. He was at the time updating Minister of State with responsibility for Sports Hon. Richard Skerritt during a site visit. Minister Skerritt was joined by other government officials as well as representatives of the St. Kitts Amateur Athletic Association and members of the local organizing committee for the 2008 CARIFTA Games.

“We do not foresee any problems in (completing) the project on time,” Morton reported. “All of the lead times that we have were anticipated and we expect that the first set of heavy material (such as steel) will arrive on site in the next two weeks.”

Most of the building materials the project manager referred to are being custom made in various countries including Trinidad and the United States.
