Minister of Health in the Nevis Island Administration Hon. Hensley Daniel issued a call to Nevisians to surround those in poor mental health with love, care, social and economic support and to patronise the activities of Mental Health Week from October 8-12, 2007.
 
The Minister urged Nevisians to be tolerant of the mentally ill while he delivered a televised address under the theme “Mental Health in Nevis in a Changing World – The impact of Culture and Diversity”, to mark the observance of World Mental Health Day on October 10th 2007. He also use the opportunity to thanks those who were directly involved in the care of mentally challenged persons on Nevis.

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis

The town house complex at Central Basseterre will welcome its first tenants, perhaps as early as next week as government continues to fulfill its promise of providing affordable housing to residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.

General Manager of the National Housing Corporation (NHC) Wayland Vaughn took Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and Minister responsible for Housing Hon. Cedric Liburd on a tour of the two complexes being constructed at Central Basseterre and at Taylor’s Range in East Basseterre. The touring party was joined by the respective parliamentary representatives for the areas.

“Again I emphasize that a promise made is a promise kept,” Prime Minister Douglas told SKNIS. “We continue to live to the basic [commitments] that were outlined in our [the St. Kitts – Nevis Labour Party] Manifesto for 2004 when we were last elected.”

A certificate of title for a plot of land and a grant of $75,000.00 were presented to the Nevis Fishermen’s Marketing and Supply Co-operative Society Ltd. by the Nevis Island Administration [NIA] on Thursday October 04, 2007, in keeping with a campaign promise to assist with the re establishment of the Fisheries Complex.
 
The handing over ceremony took place at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Conference Room at Prospect, where Minister of Agriculture, Land, Housing, Co-operatives and Fisheries, the Hon. Robelto Hector presented the documents to newly elected President of the Fishermen’s Cooperative’s Mr. Winston Pinney.
 
Following the closure of the Fisheries Complex in Charlestown in late last year, Minister Hector had held a series of island wide consultations with fishers to discuss the way forward for the complex. 
 
While delivering remarks, Mr. Hector said that the ceremony was a product of the consultation exercises held earlier this year.  He said the event authenticated the vision and commitment of the NIA to assist them to make a new start.
