This weekend, locals will get a sample of the exciting activities being planned for the 2007-2008 National Carnival Season.

The event will be launched on Saturday, October 06 at Independence Square and will be headlined by guest artiste McArtha “Calypso Rose” Lewis of Trinidad and Tobago.

Having shared her enormous talent with audiences all over the world, Calypso Rose is reported to be the premiere ambassador of Caribbean music having produced hits such as “Fire in Me Wire” and “Gimme More Tempo.”

Caribbean Health Ministers Aim To Reduce Infections

St. Kitts and Nevis‘ Minister of Health, Hon. Rupert Herbert and other regional colleagues say they will work to reduce healthcare-associated infections through a series of actions that include getting healthcare providers to improve hand hygiene.

The Ministers of health and delegates from 14 Caribbean countries signed a declaration at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on Saturday pledging support for the First Global Patient Safety Challenge: “Clean Care is Safer Care,” an initiative of the World Alliance for Patient Safety – World Health Organization (WHO).

The ministers and delegates are among dozens of top health authorities gathering in Washington, D.C., for the 27th Pan American Sanitary Conference, which takes place Oct. 1 to 5 at PAHO headquarters. Health Planner in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Andrew Skerritt is also attending the meeting.

Red flags are being raised regarding the government’s latest privatization deal and land initiative which when combined, could gross close to 300 million dollars.

During a ceremony held at the Marriott Resort last Friday, Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Denzil Douglas signed the necessary documents to sell government’s equity interest in Cable and Wireless (St.Kitts – Nevis Ltd.) netting over EC$36 million.
Cable and Wireless (West Indies) purchased the shares from the government at $6.41 each and is required to make them available to the public at $5 per share, plus the usual transaction costs. However, only 30% of the 17% shares sold by the government will be made available to the public.
