St. Kitts – Nevis is the venue for the United States-based Credit Union Executives Society’s (CUES) symposium next February.

The February 1st to 5th meeting is slated to be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino.

The CUES Symposium is the only event in the credit union industry that is focused solely on increasing the effectiveness of the vital relationship between the CEO and board chair. It is designed to help meet the challenges of working together and leading the organisation successfully forward. Through team-building activities and communication-enhancing experiences, the retreat is expected to result in improving dialogue and developing a unified vision for credit unions.

The Opening Speaker will be the Chairman, President and CEO of ING Direct USA, Arkadi Kuhlmann.

Nevis Farmers Benefit From NHLDC Partnership

Livestock Farmer Mr. Gary Harris said he was pleased with the investment made by the Nevis Housing and Land Development Corporation (NHLDC) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture on Nevis, to relocate his farm from Prospect Palms to Maddens.

He made the comment during a dismantling exercise at his farm at Prospect Palms. Mr. Harris, who resides over seas, also registered his intention to continue to invest in his farm.

“I like the area and I am happy with the investment”¦yes I plan to invest more money into my operaations to make it bigger than it is right now,” he told the Department of Information on September 03, 2008.

The relocation was one of several that were done in areas earmarked by NHLDC for housing developments but had been used by livestock farmers.

General Manager of the NHLDC Mr. Eustace Nisbett Jr. explained that they had made a commitment to provide adequate alternative farm lands and to assist with the relocation efforts.

Recent private sector housing initiatives are evidence of the high level of confidence it continues to demonstrate as a result of the healthy investment climate that exists in the twin-island Federation.

“The private housing initiatives that are mushrooming all over St. Kitts and Nevis will continue to empower our people in terms of home ownership,” said Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas at his recent monthly Press Conference.

“A home is the most valuable asset that most people – anywhere in the world – will ever own,” he said.

Since taking office in 1995, the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Douglas has provided some 2,500 low-income, affordable, and middle-income homes, via several housing programmes of the National Housing Corporation (NHC). Recently launched in Half Way Tree was an EC$50 million programme for the construction of 500 homes.

The governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government welcomes the growing increase in home ownership middle and upper income nationals of the twin-island Federation.

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is expected to lead nationals on a Walk For Health next weekend, the major activity to celebrate Caribbean Wellness Day.

Dr. Douglas, the Caribbean’s lead spokesman for Health-related matters in the quasi-cabinet of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), is expected to lead participants in the walk which leaves the Cayon Health Centre at 5:30 A.M. on Saturday 13th September.

The Health Promotion Unit, in the Ministry of Health, Social Development, Community and Gender Affairs is coordinating several activities, under the theme “Love that Body” which promotes no smoking, daily exercise, use of less salt and fat and checking of blood pressure on the radio programme “A Voice for Health,” with Nurse Christine Wattley on Sunday 7th September.

Dr. Hazel Williams-Roberts will heighten the awareness and the observance of Caribbean Wellness Day on ZIZ TV’s “Upfront” segment” on Wednesday 10th September.
