Private sector development is slated to receive a major shift in focus and strategy in 2007, to allow it to become the engine of economic growth in Nevis.
That disclosure came from Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance the Hon. Joseph Parry, when he delivered the 2007 Budget Address on Monday December 18, 2006 at the Nevis Island Assembly in Charlestown.
He said the sector was an important component of his administration’s economic development strategy and must become the engine of growth for its economic strategy to become sustainable.

Premier of Nevis and Minster of Finance in the Nevis Island Administration the Hon. Joseph Parry presented a budget of confidence and people empowerment when the Nevis Island Assembly met at the Assembly Chambers in Charlestown on Monday, December 18, 2006.
While he addressed a packed gallery, the Finance Minister said the $164, 608, 228 budget was only the beginning of the journey of the Nevis Reformation Party led Administration, to reinvent and reinvigorate the government.
St. Kitts End Nevis Expects EC$300 Million From Tourism In 2006

Expenditure from tourism is expected to surpass EC$300 million for the first time in its history in 2006.
This disclosure has come from Prime Minister Denzil Douglas and Minister of Finance and Tourism, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in his 2007 Budget Address in the National Assembly.
Dr. Douglas said the tourism sector has performed well despite major challenges facing the industry and highlighted that the current period is a critical time for making capital out of the opportunity that we had created to become the smallest ever World Cup Cricket venue.
“Much of our expenditure in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture over the past year has been focused on completing our obligations as a World Cup venue, but also to position our Country as a significant player in the sports, cultural and events tourism business,” said the Prime Minister.
Nevis Outlines Youth-At-Risk Programme for 2007

St. Kitts and Nevis will continue to make every effort to introduce preventative measures to ensure that the Federation’s youths do not resort to criminal lifestyles.
The Ministry of National Security will continue to work with the Ministry of Education and Youth and Social Development, Community and Gender Affairs and other relevant arms of Government.
Nevisians Urged To Take Advantage Of UNESCO Projects
CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 14, 2006)
General Secretary for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Mr. Antonio Maynard has encouraged Nevisians to familiarise themselves with projects and programmes offered by the Organisation and to take advantage of them.
Mr. Maynard’s advise came at the end of a UNESCO sponsored Library training project certificate award ceremony on Tuesday December 12, 2006, at the Department of Education, Marion Heights in Nevis in a bid to raise UNESCO’s profile and sensitise the public on Nevis.
He said, though UNESCO funded projects had increased on Nevis over the years, there were many more available that had not been fully utilised.
