Charlestown Primary Wins Grand Prize For Tourism Essay

The Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry handed over a cheque in the amount of US$ 3,000 to Charlestown Primary School today. The cheque was given to Mr. Parry by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) on his recent trip to Mexico where he attended a recent Cruise Tourism Conference.

“It was so great to see Miss Ram stand on the podium reading her winning essay at the opening ceremony in front of over 1,000 persons from North, South, Central America and the Caribbean. This is a proud moment for Miss Ram, her parents, for the school and indeed the whole of Nevis, I do hope that this means something to you as this performance is an example that will be a catalyst for you to move forward and reach even greater heights”, said Mr. Parry.

Each year the FCCA invites students in FCCA partner destinations in the Caribbean to participate in the FCCA Foundation Children’s Essay Contest. The contest aims at promoting Cruise Tourism awareness among the young people of the Caribbean. The topic of this year’s Essay Competition was “If I were a Cruise passenger, what would I like to see or do in my country?”

Nevis Airport To Now Charge For Parking

A new and innovative initiative, the first of its kind on Nevis, took effect on Thursday November 1st 2007, at the Vance W. Amory International Airport and is expected to bring the island on par with international parking standards at port facilities. 
 
An opening ceremony to inaugurate the airport car parking toll booth and taxi pavilion took place on the airport environs at Newcastle on Wednesday October 31, 2007. The event signaled another milestone in the thrust of the Nevis Reformation Party led-Administration to develop and improve the port facilities on the island.
 
Mr. Spencer Hanley, Manager of the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (NASPA) explained that the paid parking facility would be financially beneficial to the airport and would not have any undue financial burden on users who would be required to pay a minimal fee.
 
“You will pay practically nothing to park here ““ a mere EC$1.00 per hour (or part thereof).  When you consider the high costs involved in maintaining an airport this is a small price to pay towards the upkeep of your beautiful airport,” Mr. Hanley said.

St. Kitts and Nevis To View Christophe Harbour Development

Nevis Mutual Funds Seminar Concludes

Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance the Hon. Joseph Parry, told practitioners in the financial services sector on the island that they should evaluate the industry and endeavor to develop the necessary expertise to do a good job.
 
The Premier made the statement while he delivered an address on October 30, 2007, at the Red Cross Conference Centre in Charlestown, at a closing ceremony of a two-day Mutual Funds Administration Seminar. It was organised by the Nevis Financial Services Regulation and Supervision Department and financed by the Nevis Island Administration (NIA).
 
“You have to give advice, serious advice and that advice can lead to a loss of millions of dollars or it can lead to a gain of millions of dollars…For us Nevisians and as a government, it is important that we add value to the product. We cannot be satisfied with just registering companies, LLCs and IBCs but we must be bigger players in the market, whereby we are able to have mutual funds, insurance and whatever we have. We must be experts in dealing with these matters. So it is very important that we train ourselves and that we are ready for the big time.

Nevis Premier Welcomes Canadian High Commissioner

Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry on Tuesday October 30,2007, welcomed new Canadian High Commission to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, His Excellency Mr. David Marshall to Nevis and expressed the hope that the envoy would find his brief visit enjoyable. 
 
The visit provided an opportunity for the High Commissioner to dialogue and on matters of mutual interest during a luncheon meeting at the Four Seasons Resort.
 
“Welcome Commissioner Marshall to Nevis and to the Four Seasons Resort, Nevis.  I hope that you will enjoy your brief stay here and that will find this hotel to be the best hotel in the world and certainly the people of Nevis, very friendly.  Your government has been kind to us in the past and I am looking forward to continuing a great relationship with the government of Canada,” the Premier said. 
 
In response the High Commissioner concurred and also expressed his pleasure for the warm reception to the island and articulated his government’s continued commitment.
