A needs assessment and fact finding mission was the purpose of a three day visit to Nevis by a four member team from the Trinidad based training institution Metal Industries Company Limited (MIC).
 
The group headed by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Cipriani Davis,  left Nevis on January 11, 2007, following a number of consultations and interviews with skilled workers in construction, mechanics, electricity, technicians, engineers and school leavers to share information that would better equip them to master their craft and acquire professional accreditation.
 
On arrival, the team was introduced to Premier of Nevis the Hon Joseph Parry who welcomed them to the island while he expressed the Nevis Island Administration’s (NIA) interest in the programme.
 
Minister of Social Transformation the Hon. Hensley Daniel who accompanied the team during their meeting with the contractors and mechanics explained that the NIA had promised to invest in the development of the island’s human resource and had collaborated with MIC to embark upon the process of preparing the youth for the future.

Premier and Minister of Education on Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry, appealed to school principals and teachers and senior education managers on Nevis to uphold discipline at all cost in the island’s schools. He said in order to harness discipline from the students, they too should be models in that area.
 
Mr. Parry was at the time delivering the feature address on January 09, 2007 at the commencement of the final training workshop on managing productive schools under the theme “rising the Standard through continuing Professional Development and Training”. The event which brought together 33 principals and senior managers and 11 education officials was hosted by the Department of Education on Nevis.

The Hon. Dwight Cozier is now the new Junior Minister in the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). Earlier today, (Thursday January 10) a brief yet pronounced ceremony to swear in the Hon. Minister in his new capacity, took place at the Cabinet Chambers at Bath Plain. 
 
Her Ladyship, Justice Ianthea Leigetwood-Octave administered the Oath of Office to seal the new appointment.  Minister Cozier who was sworn in over one year ago in the Premier’s Ministry, now holds special responsibility for Consumer Affairs, Trade, industry, Import and Export Control.
 
“I want to thank all my colleagues for congratulating me and for being able to continue to give me the support as I am taking this transfer from the Premier’s Ministry to the Deputy Premier’s Ministry. I believe as the Premier has already asserted that this transfer will mean a renewed and continued thrust in social transformation for young people and all the people of Nevis,” Mr. Cozier said.

Principal Education Officer in the Ministry of Education on Nevis told school principals and senior managers that it was imperative that all stakeholders be committed to improvements in education and not see it as merely a job.
 
She made the remark at the commencement of a two day Principals/Senior Management Training Workshop which would conclude at the Mount Nevis Hotel in Newcastle, on January 10, 2007. The workshop under the theme “Rising the Standard through continuing Professional Development and Training” is the final of a series of training workshops over the past three years, geared towards the management of productive schools on Nevis.
 
“As policy makers and technicians in our education system, it is absolutely necessary that we equip or retool ourselves as necessary to provide our children with a quality education for learning for life and work. We have to be concerned with the relevance of the education our young people receive and the opportunities we open up to them in the world of work in the 21st century,” she said.
