Premier and Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Joseph Parry says he is very pleased with the theme chosen and activities planned to celebrate Tourism Week in Nevis, this year.
“Tourism Week 2012 celebrations under the theme, “Tourism: Linking Generations, Bridging Cultures”, will support the island’s most vital industry, and will feature a range of events to celebrate the contributions of the sector,” commented the Premier.
The 10-day celebrations kick off on Friday, February 3 with a Cultural Parade which starts at the Administration Building at 3:30pm, and ends at the Arthur L. Evelyn Building in down-town Charlestown for the Official Launch.
On Saturday, Feb. 4, six young ladies drawn from the two government-owned secondary schools will vie for the title of Ms. Teen Hospitality in a pageant staged at the Nevis Cultural Centre at 8:00pm.
A Church Service at the Taylor Memorial Wesleyan Holiness Church, Charlestown on Sunday, Feruary 05, 2012 at 10:00am will form part of the program, followed later in the afternoon by Horseracing at the Indian Castle Race Track.
On Monday, February 6, the official Tourism Week Address will be delivered on local radio at 8am Choice Community Radio, and at 8:30am there will be Talks in Schools focused on the theme. An Art Exhibition and Sale opens on the same day at the Nevisian Artisan Village, and will run through Friday, February 10, 8:00am ““ 4:00pm daily.
The Nevis Tourism Youth Congress will host a Panel Discussion moderated by Clayticia Daniel the reigning Junior Minister in Tourism. During the Panel Discussion the students will be asked: “As Junior Minister of Tourism what two types of Tourism will you pursue to develop Tourism in Nevis. The event will be held at the Nevis Cultural Centre at 10:00am on Tuesday, February 07, 2012.
Wednesday, February 08, 2012, will see the Annual Primary Schools Quiz Competition sponsored by the award-winning Nisbet Plantation Beach Club at the Nevis Cultural Centre at 10:00am.
The Tourism Week Awards Ceremony and Dinner will take place at the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club on Thursday, February 9, and a Night of the Stars Concert at the Cultural Centre at 7:30pm on Friday, February 10.
On Saturday, February 11, the action moves to The Gingerland Public Market for the Tourism Cultural Day, Sporting Event and Extempo Competition from 11:00am.
Activities celebrating Tourism Week 2012 climax on Sunday, February 2, with Horse Racing at the Indian Castle Race Track.
