Nevis Postal Services is observing the 49th anniversary of World Post Day on October 9, 2018, with a month of activities. The international event is geared towards awareness, innovation and the implementation of new and improved services.

Mrs. Rhonda Forbes-Williams, Deputy Postmaster General, who heads the Nevis Postal Services said on September 27, 2018, that the activities which began on September 28 and will conclude on November 02 will be a celebration with a difference.

“We continue on the 1st to 5th on 20/20 Vision Radio with our awareness and advertisement.

“Upon conclusion of our awareness week, we open the curtains on the commencement of our activities from October 9th to November 2nd, when we bring the curtains down with a road relay,” she said.

The activities planned for October 9, World Post Day, are morning devotions at Voice of Nevis (VON) Radio; the reading of the Universal Postal Union Director General’s message on Nevis Television (NTV) and VON Radio by Mrs. Forbes-Williams and a special message delivered by Hon. Spencer Brand, Minister responsible for Posts on Nevis.

On October 11, staff from the post office will be visiting the Cecele Browne Integrated School to present gifts and awards.

Four days later on October 15 to 19, a staff exchange between St. Kitts and Nevis dubbed “Work Experience” will be held.

A take-away lunch is planned for October 24 at the post office in Charlestown. The tickets cost $25, and are available from staff members.

October 27 is slated for a hike to the Butlers source and waterfalls and the staff will be joined by their colleagues from St. Kitts. That event is also open to the public.

A staff quiz is scheduled for October 30, in an effort to challenge staff on their knowledge of the post office and the services it offers.

On October 31, an Awards Ceremony will be held to recognize officers and the Officer of the Year and Postman of the Year will be announced.

On that same day, a new imitative will be introduced. A randomly-selected primary school student will be presented with lunch sponsorship for the month of October. Every year after, an underprivileged primary school student will be selected by a school principal to receive lunch throughout October, courtesy of the Nevis Postal Services.

From October 01 to 31, customers of the Nevis Postal Services will be presented with tokens of appreciation and staff of the post office will visit schools on the island. The students will also visit the facility.

During that time, members of the public are invited to view a mini exhibition of postal-related traditional and modern items at the post office.

Participants in the road relay, which ends the month-long activities, on November 2nd, will include officers from other departments within the Nevis Island Administration. The race will begin from the Four Seasons Resort on the Island Main Road to the by-pass to the Nevis Postal Services in Charlestown.

The first two events were an Awareness March through Charlestown on September 28 and a church service at the Charlestown Methodist Church on September 30.
