Nevis Premier and Minister of Tourism, Joseph Parry says he is delighted that another major annual international sporting event will take root in Nevis on January 29, 2012, when the country hosts its first Half Marathon.
An elated Mr. Parry said, “Sports Tourism is growing throughout the Caribbean and I am pleased to know that Nevis has taken up the challenge to be a part of that growing market.”
Event SKN, a local entity that creates, organizes, promotes and hosts sporting events, will present this new addition to the calendar of sports tourism events.
The race is expected to attract the region’s top distance runners in its first year, and the goal is to see it become one of the major events on the Caribbean’s athletics and sports calendar. In addition to the Half Marathon distance of 13.1 miles, there will also be a 10-kilometer and a 5-kilometer event.
Mr. Greg Phillip, member of Event SKN said that part of the proceeds from the Half Marathon will benefit Over the Top Track Club and the Diabetes Association of St.Kitts – Nevis.
