Premier of Nevis and Minister of Information in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) Hon. Vance Amory, left Nevis on July 13, 2013, for the Dutch Caribbean Island Aruba, to attend the 29th annual Conference and Trade Show hosted by CANTOR at the Renaissance Aruba Resort and Casino. The theme for the conference is “Towards a SMART Broadband Caribbean Community.”

Premier Amory was scheduled to participate in “Ministers’ Monday” on July 15. The event takes the form of a breakfast meeting and roundtable panel discussions with colleagues from Aruba, Barbados, Bahamas, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tortola and Turks and Caicos.

According to CANTO, the annual conference is designed to provide an opportunity for the academic and industrial community to address new research challenges, share solutions and discuss issues in information and telecommunication technologies (ITC).

The organisation also noted that the conference is attended by Ministers of Telecoms/ICT, Operators, Regulators, Suppliers and other industry professionals from around the world.

CANTO whose office is based in Trinidad and Tobago, was founded in 1985 as a non-profit association of eight telephone operating companies. Since then its membership has grown to more than 123 in more than 34 countries.  A Board of Directors appointed by the membership directs the policy of the Association.

The Organisation is recognised as the leading trade association of the ICT sector for shaping information and communication in the Caribbean.

It views its role in the Caribbean Telecommunications community as that of leadership in influencing policy.
