The Ministry and Department of Agriculture’s 24th annual Open Day is one day away and officials say they are prepared to host the island’s foremost annual agriculture event. This year’s theme is “Building Resilience to Climate Change for Food Security”.
Mr. Huey Sargeant, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture gave the assurance on March 20, 2018, that the two-day event slated for March 22nd and 23rd at the Villa Grounds in Charlestown should go as planned.
“I’ve been assured by the director and the other senior staff at the Ministry of Agriculture that all of the “I’s” have been dotted and all of the “T’s” have been crossed and its really just to move them in place for the 24th staging of the Department of Agriculture’s Open Day and exhibition.
“We have literally everything, all in one place and we’re ready so it’s just about time for you to start putting some dollars in your wallet and purses to come and support our local farmers,” he said.
The event which over the years draws patrons from throughout the Federation and other parts of the Caribbean, will feature various aspects of agriculture including food preparation demonstrations, best agricultural practices, crop farming techniques, livestock, agro-processing, ornamentals, the Abattoir, Veterinary Services, Fisheries and Cooperatives.
