Geothermal Steam – Hamilton Estate, Nevis
Charlestown, Nevis
October 29th, 2008
The Nevis Geothermal Conference scheduled for November 7, 2008 in Nevis, has been postponed until early 2009.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, Works, Public Utilities, Posts, Physical Planning, Natural Resources & Environment, Mr. Ernie Stapleton commented that the event was put on hold due to the damage caused to the conference venue, The Four Seasons Resort, by Hurricane Omar in the early morning of Thursday, October 16th.
Permanent Secretary Stapleton and Junior Minister Hon. Carlisle Powell gave positive assurance that the general public would be informed of the new date after Four Seasons has confirmed their reopening date.
This will be the first Geothermal Conference hosted by Nevis who started a major thrust into exploration for geothermal energy in 2008. West Indies Power has successfully drilled three exploration wells that have all found the geothermal reservoir and produced steam.
The announcement of the Geothermal conference created enormous interest and is expected to draw up to two hundred delegates. Geothermal energy is seeing a growth in Public and International Government interest. It is considered a clean and renewable alternative source of energy which would significantly reduce our dependence on high priced oil.
