Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis
September 13, 2010
Director of the Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association Selection Committee, Ms. Julie Charles encourages outstanding, well-rounded young individuals who are agents of change and who have contributed to the development of their respective communities and to St. Kitts to apply for consideration as a 2010 Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awardee.
Ms. Charles noted that after five years of existence the organization took a year off in 2009 to reevaluate its mandate but realizes now that the recognition of exemplary young people is critical not only to enhancing youth morale but also prove nationally, regionally and internationally that St. Kitts is a nation with young persons who believe in scholarship, leadership and service. She said, “We also thought that the awards might have been duplicitous, as the Government recognized outstanding young people as part of the 2009 Independence Celebration.
I must note that the selection of awardees did give credence to our selection process as five LYLAA awardees Azilla Clarke, Dominic Matthew, Konris Maynard, Dr. Garfield Alexander, and Pastor Clive Saunders were honoured for their contribution to national development at the 2009 Independence Youth Awards. We now realize that one can never get too much recognition. We applaud the Government for its focus on youth.
Interested persons are asked to submit a written biography, highlighting their academic/scholarly achievements, leadership roles, societal contributions and future plans OR complete the LYLAA application form available at the Department of Youth on Church Street Basseterre. Applicants are also asked to write a brief article on an issue affecting young people in St. Kitts and tell how they intend to play a role in alleviating this problem. Nominations will also be accepted from organizations and members of the community.
Submissions should be sent to the Department of Youth no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday 8th October 2010. For further information you may contact Ms. Julie Charles, Director of the Selections Committee at [email protected] or Ms. Janelle Lewis, Operations Director at [email protected]. Submissions may also be emailed to Ms. Charles or Ms. Lewis at the aforementioned email addresses.
The Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association is an Honour Society which was founded by Mutryce A. Williams. The organization recognizes young citizens of St. Kitts ages 16 through 35 who have lived exemplary lives of Scholarship, Leadership and Service.
