Scores of primary school students assisted Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Edward and Princess Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex in unveiling the plaque during the renaming ceremony of the Royal Basseterre Valley National Park on Saturday.

Flag-waving students greeted the Royal Couple at Port Zante And at the site for the proposed park on the Kim Collins Highway during ceremonies to mark the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince Edward after making his formal response to words of welcome from St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister The Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas returned to the microphone and asked the children to help him unveil the plaque.

“Will you do that for me? he asked just before he and Princess Sophie were escorted by His Excellency the Governor General Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and Prime Minister Douglas to unveil the plaque and plant the national tree, the 60th in the Federation.

Following the unveiling and tree planting Their Highnesses spent several minutes speaking personally to the children and  students.
