Miss Kelsia Liburd – 2010 FCCA Poster Contest Winner

Regional winner in the 2010 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Poster contest Miss Kelsia Liburd, was recently awarded a scholarship in cash of US$3,000 and was treated to lunch with her class onboard the Royal Princess Cruise ship.

The Gingerland Secondary School student was the winner in the junior category (ages 12 and under) from among students from 15 islands/countries, who had participated in a poster contest which promoted protecting the environment.

Miss Liburd’s winning poster according to Ministry of Tourism Officer, Miss Vanessa Webb, exemplified Caribbean excellence and expressed useful depictions of ways in which to preserve the environment.

Meanwhile, Captain Kent of the Royal Princess Cruise ship awarded Miss Liburd with her prizes and took pictures with her classmates, parents, her school headmistress and the Ministry of Tourism Officials who had accompanied her onboard the vessel.

Captain Kent said it was a proud moment for him and his staff, as they welcomed Miss Liburd, and her entourage to a lunch. He also said she is very deserving of the honor.

Kelsia’s class also received US$3,000 in lieu of art supplies and a tour of the ship after lunch.

Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary, Mr. Tyrone O’Flaherty also commended Miss Liburd on her win, stating that she had tremendous talent and he predicted many more wins for her in the future.

Each year students in FCCA destinations are asked to participate in the poster competition which is directed at promoting awareness and educating students on the importance of protecting the environment.
