A series of in-service training programmes for taxi drivers is aimed at improving the quality of service in the tourism and transportation industry.

“There is much more to learn. New improvements have been taken place in this country. New sites have come into existence. New information is being gleaned every day as we dig deeper and deeper into our history, our heritage, our past and our culture,” said Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

He said the training programmes are to improve the capacity of taxi drivers to discharge a top quality service and pointed out that the St. Kitts-Nevis Administration wants to ensure that there is a higher quality of service as the tourism industry is one of the major pillars that drive the economic development of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Dr. Douglas noted that the National Assembly recently supported legislation to ensure that there is sustainability of professional services in this sector.

“There is nothing wrong in attempting to give the best of service at all times and the training sessions that are being arranged are aimed at improving, upgrading and professionalizing the service that is being provided by our taxi operators. It would only bring a world of good, not only to the taxi operators themselves and their families who are dependent upon their livelihood, but to those who visit our shores and who would benefit from the improved services,” said Dr. Douglas.
