Charlestown Primary Tops Nevis Athletics Again

Charlestown Primary School dominated the Gulf Insurance Inter Primary Schools Athletic Championship dubbed the Nevis’ Mini Olympics at Grove Park on Wednesday March 07, 2007, as they captured the overall winner’s trophy for the third consecutive year.

The athletics meet which was organised by the Nevis Amateur Athletics Association and the Department of Education involved eight events among the eight primary schools on the island.

At the end of the eight hour meet, Charlestown Primary had amassed 257 points; Gingerland Primary 170; Ivor Walters Primary 88; St. Thomas Primary 150; Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls Primary18; Charlestown Preparatory 85; St. James Primary 76 and St. Johns Primary 33.

Master Donne Dyer of the Charlestown Primary emerged Victor with 20 points while Miss Tyra Lewis and Miss Uniqueko Willett tied for the position of Victrix with 20 points each.

In what could be described as a colourful and peaceful afternoon, hundreds of patrons crowded Grove Park to witness the keenly contested events and enjoy the half day holiday which was granted by the Nevis Island Administration.In the Class  Champions Female category, in Class I Miss Martha Nisbett an Miss Kelisha Roberts  of the Charlestown Primary School won 12 points each; in Class II Miss Renika Daniel of the Charlestown Primary and Miss Chloe Williams of the Charlestown Prep. were each won 16 points; in Class III Miss Tyra Lewis of Charlestown Primary won 20 points; in Class IV Miss Uniqueko Willett of Charlestown Primary won 20; in Class V Miss Judene Tyson of the Charlestown Prep was awarded 18; in Class VI Miss Tyssen O’Flaherty of the St. Thomas Primary won12 while in Class VII Miss Keandra Matthew won 12 points.

In the Class Champions (Male category), in Class I Master Donne Dyer of Charlestown Primary won 20 points; in Class II Master Ranciato Jeffers of the St. James Primary won 17 points; Class III Master Saeed Williams of Charlestown Primary won 14 points; in Class IV Master Dawvin Challenger of the Gingerland Primary won 13 points; in Class V Master Jovarnee Somersall of the Gingerland Primary won 16 points; in Class VI Master Tajarie Arthurton of Gingerland Primary won 14 Points while Master Jalen Smithen also of Gingerland Primary won 8 points.

Meantime, at the start of the games Gulf Insurance Cooperate Secretary Mr. Leon Williams of the Head Office in Trinidad gave his company’s commitment to continued sponsorship of the annual meet.

“I have been asked to give a commitment on behalf of the board of Directors and the management of Gulf Insurance for our continued sponsorship of this event. I want to put on record that Gulf would continue to support Nevis in these Inter Primary Schools Championships. It is very important to us to recognise that we must deposit in our children’s lives and so Gulf Insurance is committed to sustaining our youths through this sort of sponsorship”¦ It is our hope that as we join together with the Nevis Amature Athletics Association  and all of what you are doing here that our continued support and part of this event will continue to move the young people of Nevis,” he said.
