Sugar Mas 53, the national carnival of St. Kitts and Nevis, officially opened on Saturday night with a vibrant Soca Monarch event at Carnival Village. The opening night drew a massive crowd, reflecting the excitement and pride locals feel for this annual celebration of culture, music, and tradition.
This year’s carnival season runs from December 23, 2024, to January 3, 2025, bringing together residents, visitors, and members of the diaspora for weeks of festivities. The launch event marked the beginning of what is expected to be an energetic and memorable carnival season across the Federation.

Minister Konris Maynard Returns to the Stage
One of the most talked-about moments of the night was the performance by Minister of Public Infrastructure Konris Maynard. Before entering public service, he was widely known in the music world as King Konris and had previously won the National Senior Monarch Calypso Crown multiple times at both national and regional levels.
His energetic performance quickly energized the crowd, blending musical experience with stage presence that reminded many of his celebrated calypso career. Audience members responded enthusiastically, singing and dancing along throughout his set.
