St. Kitts Walk To Celebrate OECS 42 Years
The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, in partnership with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, hosted the OECS Fun Walk on Saturday, June 17, 2023. The event was part of the celebrations for the 42nd Anniversary of the O.E.C.S. and attracted government officials, dignitaries, and many enthusiastic community members.
The goal of the Fun Walk was to raise awareness about regional integration and promote healthy lifestyles among its citizens. Participants gathered at the Caribbean Cinemas parking lot and followed a scenic route that ended at the Frigate Bay Lawn.
The atmosphere was lively and filled with excitement as people of all ages and backgrounds came together, reflecting a spirit of unity. Their participation highlighted the significance of regional integration in promoting economic growth, social development, and cultural exchange within the member states.
The event not only celebrated the 42nd Anniversary of the OECS but also served as a platform to educate participants about the benefits of regional cooperation and the OECS’s role in creating opportunities for its citizens. Attendees engaged in conversations about the importance of collaboration within the region and expressed their commitment to supporting the goals of the OECS.
After the walk, a variety of fun and educational activities were organized to engage participants and further promote the OECS’s mission. Medals and prizes were awarded to the first walkers to cross the finish line, as well as those who showed exceptional enthusiasm and dedication during the event.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and Chairman of the O.E.C.S. Authority, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, also participated in the walk. Speaking to the media afterward, he expressed his satisfaction with the event’s outcome, noting the strong sense of community and support for the OECS. He emphasized the importance of such events in fostering unity and understanding among member states, further strengthening the region’s integration efforts.
