African-American icon, musician and actor, Harry Belafonte will be the featured guest speaker at the Sixth Annual Prime Minister’s New Year’s Gala.
Chairperson of the Gala Committee, the Hon. Marcella Liburd said that the prominent humanitarian of Jamaican ancestry, has accepted the invitation of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas to speak at the January 6th 2007 event at the Grand Ballroom of the St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort. The event begins at 7:30 P.M.“2007 is a special year for us in St. Kitts and Nevis and indeed the OECS and the Caribbean. It is truly our time. A number of significant events and developments including the hosting of World Cup Cricket will be indelibly etched in our minds and recorded in our history as landmark occasions,” said Liburd, the Speaker of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly.
“It is with this in mind that our host, Honourable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has invited Ambassador Harry Belafonte, an African-American icon, musician, actor, social activist and humanitarian to be our guest speaker,” said Liburd.
“Following Ambassador Belafonte’s highly-anticipated and stimulating address, guests will be enthralled and enticed by The Drifters out of the United States of America. Formed in 1953, the Drifters is the longest running and most successful band in pop history,” said Liburd.
She said St. Kitts’ own Modern Image Band will provide music for dancing in ushering in the year 2007 with pomp and ceremony.
