St. Kitts – Nevis‘ intent lower the high crime rate by using CCTV to prevent and solve crime is getting a shot in the arm.

Permanent Secretary with responsibility for the Anti-Crime Unit, Her Excellency Ambassador Astona Browne has indicated that the crime fighting capacity of the Security Forces will receive a strong boost with the application of the improved technology.

She says there is need for law enforcement officers to be equipped with the requisite tools that would enhance the crime detection capabilities.

This technology has also proven to be quite effective in the area of crime prevention and will contribute significantly to crime reduction efforts in the Federation.

This initiative is a part of the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources that will translate into a robust crime fighting mechanism.

The Security Chiefs expressed their appreciation and satisfaction with the implementation of this new crime fighting technology and pledged their commitment to utilise it to its fullest to ensure a favourable outcome.

This phase of the CCTV project was made possible with the generous contribution of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) who has pledged its partnership in safety and security initiatives. The CCTV project is being implemented on both St. Kitts and Nevis.

The implementation of the CCTV Project was launched at the Embassy of the Communist Republic of China (Taiwan) during a brief handover ceremony.

Locals are been trained by the Taiwanese i-View Technology company, prior to installation of the security cameras at strategic locations.
