Small Oil Spill Contained
Basseterre, St. Kitts – Nevis
September 16, 2011
Officials of the St. Kitts Electricity Company said on Friday that they detected an oil spill emanating from the adjacent premises of the former SSMC.
Arthur Carlisle provided further details In a statement issued on Friday afternoon. “Shortly after 10:00 am this Friday morning, it was noticed that there was a fair amount of oil in the road at the South West corner of Needsmust Power Station.
The oil was coming from a pipe in the SSMC property and traced to a leaking oil drum. We were unable to contact anybody from SSMC and hence we isolated the oil leak and made arrangements to have the oil spill cleaned up. Driving conditions on the road became dangerous due to the oil coating the surface. We are grateful to the St. Kitts Fire Department who assisted with the clean up.”
