Nevis Island To Embark On Health Survey

The Nevis Health Promotion Unit (HPU) has been enhanced to provide greater health promotion services to the people of Nevis.
 
According to Health Educator Ms. Shirley Wilkes who also heads the department, the unit had planned to embark on the formation of a comprehensive health data bank and to provide reading materials for the public and health professionals.  They would be used as a vehicle for the development and enhancement of disease prevention and promotion practices on Nevis.
 
Ms. Wilkes made the announcement during a recent interview with the Department of Information.  According to Ms. Wikes, the collection of data would be done in the form of a three STEPS survey where key information would be gathered about behavorial and biological risk across the population.  Approximately 2200 adult males and females aged 25 to 63 years would be invited to participate in the survey.

Work Begins On St. Kitts’ Christophe Harbour

Cockle Shell Bay, St. Kitts – Nevis

The clearing of the construction site for Christophe Harbour has started at Cockle Shell Bay on the Southeast Peninsula.  The project will span 2,500 acres with access to six beaches including Cockle Shell Beach, where the work began.

According to Mr. Mark Pavluvcik, Director of Development/Construction for KHT Land Holdings, the project will take 10 to 15 years to be completed.  He added that the first phase was to remove the old buildings in order to assess the land for its future development.  “Before you can have an official ground breaking we got to tear down some buildings first to make way for the new,” he said on March 7, when initial demolition began.

Nevis Government Commends Local Contractors

While Contractors on Nevis were commended for their sustained outstanding work they were urged to continue to produce and to take advantage of the opportunities created for them under the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) led Nevis Island Administration (NIA).
 
The praise and words of advice came from Mr. Ashley Farrell Cabinet Secretary when he addressed a number of local contractors at a workshop. Mr. Farrell represented the Minister of Labour on Nevis who was at the time off island on other government duties. The half day event was hosted by the Department of Labour on Wednesday March 12, at the Red Cross Centre in Charlestown.
 
“I wish to commend you for the very outstanding work you continue to produce. This NRP government supports you, we want to see local construction firms expand into mega companies and in this regard I wish to inform you that several projects will be coming on stream later this year and it is anticipated that job opportunities in the construction field for at least the next three years will continue to increase.
