CARIPASS Will Make Caribbean Travel Easier

The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between IMPACS and the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD) and the accompanying standard operational procedures which addressed customer service training to be provided to Immigration and Customs Departments were among issues discussed at the recent meeting of Regional Chiefs of Immigration and Comptrollers of Customs.

Acting Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Rodney Harris and Inspector Luther Kelly of the Immigration Department attended the September 9th to October 1st meeting in Grenada which also discussed the Advance Passenger Information System and the Advance Cargo Information System.

The implementation of the CARICOM Travel Card (CARIPASS) as approved at the Twenty-Ninth Conference of Heads of Government Meeting in July 2008 was the main focus of the Agenda.

Minister of Social Development Honourable Rupert Herbert led a touring party of government officials to pay tribute to senior citizens in St. Kitts.

Visits to senior citizens by Ministers of Governments are a year round activity, but October’s Month of the Elderly have heightened the occasion, and made it even more special for celebrants and the honoured seniors.

The touring party which also included Director of Community Affairs, Jovil Martin as well as Supervisor of Social Assistance, Ann Wigley made six stops today (Tuesday) to salute the oldest persons in the East and Central Basseterre districts. One such visit was to 101-year-old Violet Gumbs of Bird Rock. Minister Herbert said he was pleased to be in the company of a strong nation builder.

Minister of Health on Nevis Hon. Hensley Daniel said that a collective partnership between the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), the private sector and civic organisations would put the Nevis’s elderly at the center of the island’s development.

He made the comment while he delivered an address on October 6, to officially launch activities in celebration of senior citizens at the Flambouyant Nursing Home. The theme is “Our Foundation “¦ Our Role Models”.

The Minister reassured the senior citizens of the Administration’s continued support and appreciation and cited that what Nevisians had accomplished as a people was due to the efforts, hard work and diligence of the seniors.

“There are still a number of people who yearn for the good old days when manners, respect and discipline were part of the social milieux in our community. We thank the elderly people for making sure that you raised generations of people who can carry on those values for us,” he said.
