Charlestown, Nevis (May 10, 2007)

Minister of Social Transformation in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel, disclosed that all households would benefit from the energy saving bulbs programme currently ongoing in Nevis.

The Minister’s announcement came on Tuesday May 08, 2007 while he gave a public update on the distribution of the low energy bulbs by Cuban Social Workers, on Nevis Television.

“It must be noted that some of the areas would have to be returned [to for redistribution] as there was an insufficient amount of 110 bulbs to distribute.

“It is expected that this distribution of bulbs would continue for three to four more weeks. Persons in areas where bulbs have been distributed and have not received any bulbs could call telephone number 469-0703 and state their name address and contact number, so that the Cubans could return to their areas to distribute the bulbs accordingly. Arrangements will be made to provide bulbs to businesses to sell at a cheaper rate,” he said.

Nevis Culture Minister Welcomes Carib Expedition

Charlestown, Nevis (May 07, 2007)

Minister with responsibility for Culture on Nevis the Hon. Hensley Daniel encouraged Nevisians in particular the youth, to use the visit by a group of Carib Indians to Nevis from Dominica, as an opportunity to reconnect with the people who have inhabited the Caribbean for hundreds of years.

Mr. Daniel addressed the youth on the grounds of the Museum of Nevis History, near the Charlestown Pier, while he officially welcomed the crew of the Gli Gli Expedition to Nevis. Earlier that afternoon, they had received a rousing welcome from hundreds of curious onlookers who had gathered at the Charlestown Pier late afternoon on Monday May 07, 2007 to witness their arrival.

“See this as an opportunity to reconnect with the people who came and stayed and so whenever we enjoy the modern facilities of today’s living, we can remember that there are people in our Caribbean who have maintained their standard and quality of living, to suit themselves and maybe as we are challenged to accept the styles of living from the north Atlantic “¦we will find that we may not necessarily need to go to the excesses that we sometimes do in our community,” he said.
