The Advanced Vocational Educational Center (AVEC) is employing a creative mechanism to boost public awareness of its diverse curriculum by hosting an inaugural pageant.

Clyde Christopher, Director of AVEC, told the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) the pageant was designed to generate greater interest in alternative career opportunities taught at the Center.

Each of the seven contestants will represent a subject area. These include Electricity, Business, Secretarial Skills, Computer Applications, General Accounting, Hospitality and Graphic Arts.

The participants of the show noted their excitement and touted the benefits of being a student at AVEC. Joadyan Livingston, contestant number seven, noted that students attend AVEC because it provides an opportunity to develop a skill in order to build a career which is the motto of the institution.

Shamela Eframe, contestant number three, stated that she wants to further her studies in Secretarial Skills to serve as an inspiration to her son. She plans to become one of the best data entry clerks in the Federation. Makela Galloway, contestant number two, has chosen the Hospitality field and is pursuing a career as a professional chef. Taveda Isaac is stdying Business in order to start her own company in the fashion industry.

Contestant number four, Tabitha Hensley stressed that the young ladies are multitalented and are eager to showcase their abilities.

The show will be staged at the AVEC grounds at Taylors Range on Friday April 27 at 8:00 p.m.

The institution was established in September of 1999 to offer both support and an educational alternative to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant (CFB) College or the workplace. Since then, AVEC has achieved its objectives of improving standards in technical and vocational education, developing applicable and functional skills and assisting those who wish to develop a skill or begin a technical career.
