Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is describing as “cordial, fruitful and informative” Tuesday’s meeting in New York with United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Her Excellency Ambassador Dr. Susan Rice.

Prime Minister Douglas, who was accompanied by the Troika of the Caucus of CARICOM Ambassadors, which is comprised of the Permanent Representatives of Barbados, The Bahamas and Belize, along with St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, His Excellency Ambassador Delano Bart, Q.C. touched on some of the outstanding issues in the negotiations of the Outcome Document and the need to complete the negotiations by 2nd September and other current United Nations geopolitical issues of common interest to the CARICOM, the USA and the rest of the world.

Prime Minister Douglas used the opportunity to thank Ambassador Rice for the active and important role that the United States has been playing in the negotiations to date, that will lead to a quality Outcome Document.

Both sides affirmed the commitment to secure a strong consensus Political Declaration and to future actions to address the challenge of Non-Communicable Disease (NCDs).

Dr. Douglas also used the opportunity to stress the importance of having the highest possible political representation of the United States in the person of President the Hon. Barack Obama at the High Level Meeting.
