Top travel website AOL Travel has announced that St. Kitts and Nevis earned the #4 spot on its January 10th list as compiled by journalist Jordan Simon.

Minister of Tourism, Sen. the Hon. Richard Skerritt says the new accolade is an indication that that the development strategy for the destination is working.

This latest achievement follows closely on the recent December 10th release which ranked St. Kitts on the Top 10 List for 2011 by British Airways. St. Kitts achieved the number 4 spot on both lists.

“Earning this distinction from two top travel entities is a clear indication that our strategy for the development of St. Kitts’ destination experience is working,” said Senator Skerritt, Minister of International Transport.

“We have been making significant strides forward in terms of new developments while ensuring that our natural assets, rich heritage and authentic local culture remain intact and protected.  This welcome publicity from AOL Travel and British Airways is only the beginning of the rewards that our efforts will bring to the island and people of St. Kitts and Nevis”

British Airways revealed its list of top ten destinations for 2011 in a December 2010 press release which ranked St. Kitts with Marrakech, San Diego and New York as its highest projected growth destinations for the next year.

The airline launched weekly service to St. Kitts from London (Gatwick) in January 2009, which was subsequently increased to twice weekly in March 2010.  British Airways was also named St. Kitts’ Tourism Partner of the Year in the island’s 10th Annual Tourism Awards in October 2010.

An article appearing on January 10, 2011 on AOL Travel subsequently included St. Kitts on its list of top destinations for 2011.

Mentioning the lush rainforests, history, beach bars, excellent diving and hiking, it also notes the plantation inns mixed with value lodging and new developments underway.
