St. Kitts and Nevis is cautiously optimistic about hosting matches during the upcoming tour of the Caribbean by the Bangladesh Cricket Team.
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who was welcoming the England Team to St. Kitts Wednesday said he hopes Warner Park Cricket Stadium will be selected as one of the venues for the tour of the West Indies by the Bangladesh Team.
“I am cautiously optimistic that we will be successful in getting test matches being played here at Warner Park Cricket Stadium during the upcoming tour of the Caribbean by Bangladesh,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who is also the Minister of Sports and was at the time welcoming the England Cricket Team.
Bangladesh’s planned tour of the West Indies has been rescheduled for June and July.
Dr. Douglas said the use of the Federation’s Warner Park Cricket Stadium for several international cricket matches is testimony of his government’s vision to bring test and international cricket to St. Kitts.
St. Kitts’ Warner Park Cricket Stadium re-developed with financing from the Government of the Republic of China on Taiwan and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis hosted the Third One-Day International (ODI), West Indies vs India in May 2006 and the Test Match West Indies vs India in June 2006.
In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, Warner Park hosted Australia v Scotland; Netherlands v South Africa; Australia v Netherlands; Scotland v South Africa; Netherlands v Scotland and Australia v South Africa.
The Fourth & Fifth One-Day Internationals (ODIs) West Indies vs Australia were played here in July 2008.
