Nevis Scholarship Fund Was Tremendous

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 16, 2007)
Minister with responsibility for Social Transformation in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) the Hon. Hensley Daniel, said  during an initial assessment, that although the financial position of the Alexander Hamilton Scholarship Fund Tea Party had not yet been determined due to the continued receipt of contributions, the response was tremendous.
 
Mr. Daniel made the comment during an interview with the Department of Information of Tuesday January 16, 2007. He said he was heartened by the turn out particularly in light of the absence of the Fund’s biggest fund raiser over the last eight years.
 
The Tea party which was re launched on the grounds (birthplace) of the Alexander Hamilton (Museum of Nevis History), on Low Street in Charlestown last Thursday January 11, 2007, coincided with the 250th anniversary of the birth date of Alexander Hamilton who was the first Treasurer in the United States of America.During a brief but meaningful ceremony during the Tea Party, Mr. Daniel said the NIA along with the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society had taken the opportunity to connect with the past and prepare for the future by using the funds raised to educate the young people of Nevis.
 
He thanked those who had continued to the Fund and urged for their continued support to what he termed was a worthy cause.
 
“Please continue to support the Fund and we will do whatever we can to provide for the students as we have done in the past, we took recommendations from the participants at the Tea party and from the public so that we could make the Fund more meaningful,” he said.
 
Miss Midge Morton, a past recipient of the Scholarship Fund and a recent graduate from the University of the West Indies Law School during brief remarks saluted the scholarship fund and thanked the organizers, founding members and all who had contributed which lent to her success as a lawyer.
 
She also took the opportunity to implore students to take their education seriously since in her view if they wanted to succeed in their dreams it was the best way to do so. She also stressed the importance of the continued support for the fund because education was one of the most expensive commodities today.
 
Mr John Guilbert Executive Director of the NHCS used the opportunity to publicly thank the NIA for its decision to revitalise the Tea Party and to assist with the Alexander Hamilton Scholarship Fund.
 
He said the partnership between both entities had helped the NHCS and would serve as a springboard to facilitate both secondary school and college level students.
 
Mr. Guilbert also thanked Dr. Ezben Williams the Federation’s Ambassador to the United States for his assistance.
 
Also in attendance was the Hon. Robelto Hector, Mr. Patrice Nisbett Legal Advisor in the NIA and Mr. Amba Trott the son of Marion Trott, founder of the Alexander Hamilton Scholarship Fund who gave an ode to Alexander Hamilton entitled “The Boy from Charlestown”. The event was chaired by Mr. Halsted “Sooty” Byron Advisor in the Ministry of Social Transformation.
