The Nevis Island Administration has officially completed the Pinney’s Beach Enhancement Project, marking a major milestone in the development of one of Nevis’ most treasured coastal areas. Located west of the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park, the upgraded beachfront now serves as a vibrant hub for leisure, business, and entertainment, welcoming both residents and visitors.

A Milestone Achieved Through Collaboration
The completion of the project was commemorated during a formal ceremony, where Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism in the Nevis Island Administration, John Hanley, praised the achievement as the result of 16 months of focused effort and cooperation.
Hanley emphasized that the transformation of Pinney’s Beach was made possible through teamwork across multiple agencies and partners. He described the finished project as a welcoming space designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds.
Project Scope and Timeline
Project Manager Michael Perkins explained that work on the Pinney’s Beach Enhancement Project began in December 2022 and was completed ahead of schedule in August 2024. The total contract value amounted to approximately USD $3.3 million.
A significant portion of the investment was directed toward modern infrastructure, including smart lighting and electronic systems. These upgrades were designed to ensure the area remains well lit, technologically advanced, and safe for use both day and night.

The project was made possible through a strong partnership between the Nevis Island Administration and the Republic of China (Taiwan). The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to sustainable development and long-term resilience.
Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis, Michael Lin, expressed pride in supporting what he described as a unique eco-tourism initiative. He highlighted the balance between beauty and practicality, noting that safety, comfort, and innovation were central to the design.
Ambassador Lin also emphasized the importance of durable infrastructure, explaining that systems such as drainage and shoreline protection were carefully engineered to help the area withstand future storms and environmental challenges.
With the completion of phases one and two, Taiwan has contributed nearly USD $6 million toward the overall development of Pinney’s Beach.
