St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is to address the 63rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday.
The St. Kitts and Nevis leader is among more than 100 heads of state and government who are down to attend the Assembly which officially began Tuesday.
Prime Minister Douglas will also participate in the High-level Meeting on the Millennium Development Goals on Wednesday 24th September.
The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon wants to focus this week on getting world leaders to agree on how to meet the Millennium Development Goals, the ambitious set of targets aimed at halving world poverty by 2015.
However, with market mayhem and rising food prices, persuading politicians to focus on the plight of the world’s poorest rather than their own domestic constituencies could be a tough sell.
The theme for the 63rd Session is “The Food Crisis and the democratisation of the United Nations.”
