CHARLESTOWN NEVIS, (November 06, 2006)
The St James Primary School received a gift of a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop computer from a past student on Friday November 3rd, 2006, following a request by the executive of the school’s Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA).
The computer was delivered to the Department of Education on Nevis on behalf of Mr. Patrick Nisbett who resided in the United States. However, Mr. Joseph Wiltshire, Education Officer handed the gift to the school principal Ms. Vertelly Weeks in the presence of PTA President Ms. Verline Glasgow and Secretary Ms. Colette Weekes and students and staff at the school’s auditorium.
During the presentation, Mr Wiltshire explained that sometime ago Miss Glasgow approached the former student and asked if he would donate a computer to the school.“Mr. Nisbett who attended the St. James Primary School and who also taught at that school decided that it would be a good and fitting gesture to make such a presentation. So this morning we are here to present a lap top to the school.
“It is the hope of Mr. Nisbett that the laptop would be used to enhance the learning of all the students at St James Primary School. And so on your behalf I want to present this Dell lap top computer to your principal and hope that you would find it useful as you continue to work hard and to excel in your education,” he said.
Ms. Weeks thanked Mr. Nisbett for the gift on behalf her students and staff at the school and gave the assurance that the computer would be put to good use in the education of the students.
“I can assure Mr. Nisbett that this Laptop would be put to good use to enhance the learning here at the school. I already know one teacher who is happy we have this laptop because that particular teacher has been trying to use it (a computer) in her social studies class in particular. So we are thankful and I want to say much thanks to the PTA President for her initiative in asking Mr. Nisbett to present this gift, we are indeed thankful,” she said.
Meantime, Ms. Glasgow took the opportunity to thank Mr. Nisbett for his kind gesture and her fellow executive members. She also had words of gratitude to parents who she acknowledged had worked hard to support and encourage the PTA executive.
