Nevis’ Christina Disaster Brought New Beginnings

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (August 9, 2006)

Premier of Nevis the Honourable Joseph Parry announced that a memorial service in honour of the 236 persons who perished on the MV Christina 36 years ago, would become a permanent fixture on the Nevis Island Administration’s (NIA) annual calendar of events; a disaster which he said had brought significant new beginning for Nevis.

Chris approaching the northernmost Leeward Islands…has not
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the islands of
Antigua…Barbuda…Anguilla…St. Kitts…Nevis…Saba…St.
Eustatius…St. Barthelemy…St. Martin…and St. Maarten.  A
Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are
expected within the warning area within the next 12 to 24 hours.
