A date has been set for the groundbreaking of St. Kitts’ private jet terminal.

The ceremony to begin construction on this new world-class facility at St. Kitts’ Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport is February 3rd and completion is scheduled for October 2012.

The private jet terminal will be located west of the main airport parking apron and will consist of world class arrival and departure lounges, a business center, and related offices and processing facilities, as well as an elegantly landscaped courtyard and events center.

The first phase of the development will feature the main tropical-styled and environmentally friendly terminal, valued at approximately US$6 million, with the total cost of the final project estimated at US$ 15 million.

The terminal will be constructed and operated by Veling Limited with full ownership to be transferred to The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) at the end of the concession contract period.

Veling Limited is a global aviation solution provider based in Mauritius and London, England.

The architect and interior decorator for the new terminal is internationally acclaimed Bobby Mukherji & Associates, recognized as one of India’s top ten design firms.

Premier of Nevis and Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Joseph Parry is thrilled with the large number of visitors coming specifically to Nevis via the Air Canada direct flights to St. Kitts RLB International from Toronto, Canada.

During an interview with the Department of Information Wednesday morning, Premier Parry stressed that it was important to achieve the island’s 2012 tourism targets, especially in light of the weak global economy.

“Canada has been faring well financially compared to traditional sources of Nevis visitors such as the United States and Great Britain.  I truly believe the Air Canada direct flight will be of a great advantage to our Tourism sector on both islands,” commented the Premier.

Nevis has six hotels which are participating in the St. Kitts – Nevis Air Canada package, namely: The Four Seasons Resort, Montpelier Plantation Inn, Nelson Spring Beach Villa and Spa, Nisbett Plantation Beach Club, Oualie Beach Resort and Mount Nevis Hotel.

Each resort on Nevis offers specials, such as the Four Seasons Daily Resort Credit and the Montpelier Plantation $500 Resort Credit, while the Nisbett Plantation Beach Club offers free nights in cases of advanced bookings, and the Mount Nevis Hotel gives the 6th and 7th nights free.

The Air Canada flight AC1778 operates from Toronto every Friday through to April, and is the only non-stop commercial air transport from Canada.  The commercial flight uses an Airbus 319 aircraft with 108 Economy Class seats and 12 Business Class seats.

According to the Air Canada webpage, “Nevis is truly one of the remaining un-spoilt places of the world”.

Mansion-born Canadian citizen, Sherwood Warner has expressed his elation of having flown from Pearson International Airport to Robert Bradshaw International Airport on Air Canada’s inaugural flight last week Friday.

“It is a pleasure to be here and to have flown non-stop from Canada to St. Kitts and as we came into land to see and take in the scenic views of St. Kitts,” said Sherwood in a brief interview with the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister (CUOPM) as he entered the Arrivals Hall of the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport from the Air Canada jet which had just landed.

Sherwood, who immigrated to Canada in 1969 but has been visiting several times over the past years said: “I still love St. Kitts.”

“It was terrific. It was fantastic. It was also a beautiful and excellent flight all the way through from Canada to St. Kitts and I am looking forward to have a fabulous time with my people of St. Kitts for Christmas and Carnival,” said Sherwood who will return in three weeks time.

It is his third Christmas/Carnival visit. The last time he visited was in 2008.

Several Nevisians and Kittitians who reside in various Canadian cities were onboard as St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and the Minister of Tourism and International Transport Sen. the Hon. Richard Skerritt welcomed the Air Canada flight AC1778.

The non-stop flight will operate from Toronto on Fridays and is the island’s only non-stop commercial flight from Canada, effectively making St. Kitts and its sister island, Nevis, a more viable winter destination choice for travelers from this key North American market.

Air Canada uses an Airbus 319 aircraft with 108 Economy Class seats and 12 Business Class seats.
