Plans are in final stages for a week of activities coordinated by the Department of Agriculture, under the World Food Day theme, “United Against Hunger.”

The October 9 to 16 week of activities would emphasize the need to improve agricultural output to ensure better food security, and to continue pressing the message of support for locally grown products, explains Paul Benjamin of the Department of Agriculture and the chairperson of the National World Food Day Committee.

The week of activities include a National Consultation on Agriculture with expected inputs from farmers, agriculture technicians and representatives of allied agricultural institutions such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Inter-American Institute for Corporation in Agriculture (IICA) and the Taiwan’s Agricultural Mission.

Also featured are the week’s launch at the Cayon Church of God, the donation of garden tools to the Verchilds High School, the planting of fruits tries along the Island Main Road between Cayon and Mansions, the holding of a march and rally, a Farmers Market in Independence Square, a Food Fair at the Sandy Point Public Market, the distribution of food hampers to persons in need, and an address by the FAO-World Food Day National Correspondent.
