Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris reinforced the desire that residents of St. Kitts and Nevis have a “fair share” of the job opportunities available at Christophe Harbour, at the conclusion of a tour of the resort on February 03.

This was relayed to Christophe Harbour’s Executive Vice President William Anderson who was part of the resort’s tour delegation.  Prime Minister Harris expressed pleasure at being able to recognize some of the workers during his visit.

“As we toured the site, it was important for me to see familiar local faces, among the many faces that are here,” Prime Minister Harris said.  “We accept, particularly, given our Citizenship By Investment programme, we have opened up the country to become cosmopolitan in its views and in its mix of people.  Therefore, to be really a truly global society, we are welcoming to all, but we have to ensure that our residents are prospering and are taking advantage of the opportunities.”

Prime Minister Harris underpinned this thought by providing tangible collaborative methods of increasing local employment at the resort.

“And so we hope that we could coordinate a bit more with you, through the Labour Department, the Labour Ministry and the Ministry of National Security and our ministry responsible for human resource development, so that we could plan for the future and start planning for the future now.   Getting the knowledge and skills and manpower will require a certain time-frame and so the more lead-time we have , the more we can ensure we put our people in the position to be able to seize the wonderful opportunities that are going to happen here and elsewhere in the country.”

The Prime Minister outlined that St. Kitts and Nevis is already a leader in the Caribbean Region in terms of current tourism-related activities taking place.  He mentioned the Park Hyatt, Raddison, Embassy Suites and Hilton Resorts.
